Shared Legacy Farms, a subsidiary of Bench Farms, is offering an exciting new form of agriculture this year known as a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), piloted by eldest son Kurt Bench in Elmore. out details about this vegetable subscription program and to fill out a sign up form. Three memberships are available for 2011. The Standard Vegetable Share costs $680, and is enough to fill 2 grocery bags and feed a family of four. This amounts to about $35 per week for all your produce needs. The Fruit Specialty Share is $390 and includes local fruits from neighboring farms. The Egg Share (Free range) is $60, and includes one dozen eggs per week. In return for your pre-harvest investment, each week of the harvest starting early June, the Bench family picks fresh, delicious produce from their fields at the peak of ripeness and carefully packages it into their members’ individual boxes. As crops rotate throughout the seasons, weekly shares vary by size and type of produce. Members also receive a weekly newsletter featuring a vegetable of the week, recipes to try, tips for preparing or storing your produce, and general news about the farm. You’ll also be invited to special farm events throughout the season to rub shoulders with their farm and the Bench family. These include Spring Planting days, a Pea Pick, a Corn Boil and Potluck, a Canning Event, and a Bonfire Event with a Pumpkin Hunt. Members have the option of gathering their share at one of three locations: the Perrysburg Farmer’s Market on Thursdays, Jewish Family Services in Sylvania on Thursdays, or Shared Legacy Farms (Elmore) on Wednesdays.
